Season 1, Episode 14: The Amulet of Light

This one is my attempt to reframe the Open Focus technique through an embodied practice with visualization. As far as I know, I invented this particular approach, but I’m sure someone else has done it before and I’m just unaware of it.

The focus on the thumbs and index fingers is meant to quickly stimulate the somatosensory cortex, to help the listener bring more of the brain into a similar brain wave state, and the use of the light is meant to help visualize and feel space so that that brain wave state is synchronous alpha. Rather than mentioning “pain,” or explicitly stating that the amulet should be placed on a place in the body in distress, I just leave it up to the listener what they want to do.

I also intended this to be a short practice and one that a listener could learn, make their own, and use stealthily in real-world situations. I love things like that — meditations you can do secretly while still being in the world.
