Season 1, Episode 2: Waves of Breath

I drew from several sources for this meditation. The concept of breathing up and down the spine is one I learned from my teacher, Nirlipta Tuli at Total Yoga Nidra. I also worked with Susan Shor-Fehmi from the Princeton Biofeedback Center to study their open focus technique, and most of what I'm doing here is a version of that process. It's a focus on feeling space in the body and around the body, leading to the synchronous alpha-wave state that is the hallmark of long-term meditators. I also took a bit of language from Steve Gilligan's book, Generative Trance ("settling in and settling down"), a lovely book that bridges many of these techniques. The type of breathing I introduce in the beginning is coherent breathing -- a wonderful and accessible technique of simply breathing in and out for equal amounts.

As with the first meditation in this series, there is no explicit landscape, just the hint of ocean with the wave imagry. The music is simply Koshi Aqua chimes, to suit the sense of water and space all around.
